![]() ![]() Your children are given a selection of words, complete with picture prompts, and they are tasked with sorting these words into the two categories, either by cutting out the pictures or writing in the boxes. Use the included syllable-type posters at a center or designated place in your classroom where students can reference them as needed. These Open and Closed Syllables Worksheets will help your students understand the differences between open and closed syllables. Begin with segmenting and blending syllables, and then move to working with individual sounds (phonemes). These beginning sounds worksheets use pictures to keep the focus on sounds. Blending and segmenting games and activities can help students to develop phonemic awareness the ability to hear the individual sounds in spoken words. When students begin to master different syllable types, they can practice independently by using the printable practice sheets or digital practice slides. Before your child learns phonics, they need to hear the sounds.
